Laparoscopic Appendectomy

Laparoscopic Appendectomy

Appendix is a vestigial organ which is located at the commencement of the large intestine. This organ can get impacted with feces and lead to acute inflammation and cause pain

Why does this happen:

Fecal impaction at the opening of the appendix can lead to a blockade to the outflow tract for secretions produced within the lumen of the appendix. This eventually results in an acute inflammation that can, if untreated, lead to rupture (which is the commonest cause of surgical deaths worldwide).

Treatment:

A simple laparoscopic procedure can be performed to remove the appendix safely and securely to prevent any complications. At Digestive Health Institute, our skilled doctors can perform appendicectomies by the keyhole approach (laparoscopically) for even the most complicated appendicitis.
